The development team at Mojang working on Minecraft announces that one of the big features of the coming major 1.8 update for the game will be the gamers’ ability to create their own terrain, which is previewed via a new video.

The company explains that, "There are 16 sliders which can be used to affect various aspects of Minecraft's terrain generator, but you can also type in values directly. You also have complete control over things like the sea level and what structures you want to generate."

The developers at Mojang add that there are seven presets in update 1.8, including a water world that fills the entire map and floating islands.

The studio has not said exactly when the patch will be launched for Minecraft or what other features will be included.

The title has become a hit on the PC, on which it originally launched, but also on home consoles and on mobile devices.

Mojang has plans to continue supporting Minecraft in the long term with patches that open up new gameplay possibilities for gamers and fix any remaining bugs.

It's unclear when the features of update 1.8 will be offered on other platforms on which the indie hit can be played.
