A new mobile game is now available for purchase for the owners of a Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY smartphone, namely the Minecraft – Pocket Edition. The title was just made available for the device, and is exclusive on this smartphone for a limited period of time. In the Android Market, owners of an Xperia PLAY will see the new mobile game available for $6.99.

However, the exclusivity period won't be long, the development team behind the game notes, adding that other Android users will soon have the possibility to download and install the game on their devices as well.

This is the very first flavor of Minecraft – Pocket Edition, which comes with feature aimed both at single players, as well as at users who prefer playing with their friends.

According to the company, the main focus with the first release of Minecraft – Pocket Edition was on the creative aspects of Minecraft.

“We have tried to put in the features that make sense for playing on a mobile device while still keeping the core of the Minecraft experience,” the development team notes.

“You will be able to select blocks on the touchscreen or just scroll through them with the circle and square buttons on the Xperia Play device.”

The multi-player capabilities can be used on a local wireless network, offering Android owners the possibility to connect with their friends in a virtual world to build together.

Some of the multi-player features that the new mobile game comes with include:

- Randomized worlds - Build anything you can imagine - Build with 36 different kinds of blocks - Invite and play with friends to your world (local wireless network) - Save multi-player worlds on your own phone

As stated above, the new mobile game was already made available via the Android Market, but it is visible only for Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY users at the moment. The game was listed in the storefront here.
