Mojang has revealed that it is currently working hard on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita versions of Minecraft, with an intended release window of Q2/Q3 2014.

The announcement came in response to a fan query in the comments section of the article detailing the upcoming physical release of Minecraft for the PlayStation 3 home entertainment system from Sony, which will be released on May 14, 2014.

Although the console editions lack some of the features available on PC, such as custom player skins, being limited to the pre-set ones and DLCs, the core experience that sold over 35 million copies of the game is intact and allows countless gamers around the world to let their imagination run wild.

However, some of the details regarding cross-buy between platforms and upgrade options are still pending, but Mojang's Owen Hill did mention that the studio was planning to enable world transfers from the PlayStation 3 to the PlayStation 4, and maybe also to the PlayStation Vita.

Speaking of the Vita, Hill stated that the port would be "up-to-date with the console versions" and that he expected smooth framerate and a solid experience, and maybe even some discounts on the PS Vita for owners of the PlayStation 3 edition.
