Minecraft for the PlayStation 4 is now available for download in Europe and PAL regions, while North American PS4 owners will have to wait a few more hours until they're allowed to get the game. The PS3-to-PS4 upgrade is also available for a small fee.

Minecraft has been a long time coming to new consoles, as 4J Studios, the team in charge of translating Mojang's Minecraft PC edition onto other platforms wanted to get things right and prevent any game-breaking bugs from sneaking into the new versions of the game.

After hearing yesterday that Minecraft on the Xbox One is going to debut on Friday, September 5, it seems that Sony has accelerated the release of Minecraft PS4 Edition, as the title is already available for download on the PS Store in Europe and the other PAL regions (Australia, Middle East, etc.).

North American PS4 owners will have to wait a bit more, as Sony has confirmed on the PS blog that Minecraft for their console is going to pop up in the PlayStation Store in the following hours. It's still unclear when but the company did offer a deadline of 12pm PST on September 4.

"For those looking for the ultimate Minecraft experience, the PS4 Edition will feature worlds 36 times bigger than the ones you might be used to on the PS3 system. Existing players will be able to import PS3 saves to the PS4 Edition, allowing them to continue work on their immense structure or delve even deeper towards the Nether," Sony said about the new release.

The game is priced at 19.99 USD or 18.99 EUR, depending on the region. Of course, just like on the Xbox One, an upgrade offer is also available. As such, owners of the game on the PS3 can upgrade their copy to the PS4 version for a small fee.

Sony has detailed the exact way in which this offer works, for those who already own Minecraft PS3 edition digitally or via a retail disc, as well as for those that want to get it soon.

"For Existing PS3 Edition Owners (Disc or Digital): On the PS4, simply log into PlayStation Store and find Minecraft PS4 Edition, and you’ll be able purchase the upgrade for $4.99. Note: This entitlement applies to everyone who’s bought Minecraft PS3 Edition (Disc or Digitally) with a saved game and signed into their PS4 console using the same SEN account."

Those who get the game digitally will have to follow the same procedure after buying it for the PS3, while those who get the retail copy of the game's PS3 edition will find a special code inside that allows them to redeem the PS4 copy.
