It appears that a Minecraft feature-length movie might be in the cards for sometime in the future, according to an online report.

Mojang's pixelated survival and building game has become a veritable cultural phenomenon, acting essentially like a modern, virtual version of Lego did for some past generations.

Now, it seems that "Night at the Museum" director Shawn Levy is in talks with Warner Bros., which acquired the film rights to Minecraft in February this year, in order to develop a feature film based on the gigantic video game franchise, as reported by Deadline.

The production of the movie is allegedly helmed by the same man behind the popular "The Lego Movie," Roy Lee. The good thing about the Minecraft property is the fact that it offers Warner Bros. a lot of freedom when it comes to the narrative, with the possibility of exploring pretty much any venue.

In addition to this, the notoriety of the $2.5 billion / €1.95 billion franchise offers instant brand recognition and ensures the popularity of anything that the studio creates.

It's certainly going to be an interesting development, especially since Shawn Levy has repeatedly shown his ability to translate seemingly weird ideas into successful movies, as evidenced by the three "Night at the Museum" films and "Real Steel."
