Mohegan Sun Arena- Connecticut, Friday night. Thousands of fans are anxiously waiting to see the diva perform and have the highest hopes that their $150 were money well spent. They did not even mind waiting for an extra half an hour until Mariah Carey made her appearance on the stage.
One of the many persons who went to the concert (where the 'cheap' seats were prized at $90) said that, had anybody had the inspired idea to ask the people coming out of the venue 'Did you ever had the feeling that you were cheated', the answer would have been a simple and decided 'Yes'.
And that's not because the show itself was not good, or the stage and the dancers. But because it all happened that fast that it was over well before the viewers realized it. All in all, Mariah's concert lasted no more than an hour or 75 minutes, depending on the point of view.
Truth being told, if one were to not take in consideration the time that the diva spent off-stage changing outfits, the solo of one of her back-up dancers and DJ performances, Miss Carey sang and entertained the crowd of admirers for no more than 45 minutes. That is the approximate amount of time granted to an opening act at all the big shows.
Even though Mariah sang some of the hit tracks from her multi-platinum 'The Emancipation of Mimi' and some older tracks (including 'Dreamlover', 'Heartbreaker' and 'We Belong Together'), the fans couldn't quite believe that she left the stage and never returned for an encore, as promised. Many said that there was a lot of 'confusion' in the stadium, with people not knowing if they were supposed to be leaving or to wait some more for Mariah to return.
But the night did have its funnier moments, like the one when the half-naked singer yelled at a crew member 'Get that light off me you dummy' and then, realizing that her microphone was on her, 'Oops, just kidding'.
Nevertheless, many loyal fans, although present at the concert and more or less heart-broken by its brevity (as compared to the ticket price), are still ruling for Mariah and await her 'Adventures of Mimi'.
