Miley Cyrus was supposed to bring her twerkfest Bangerz to the Dominican Republic in the Dominican Republic on September 13, but the local authorities issued a kind of “thanks, but no thanks” statement, effectively banning the singer from entering their country to perform.

The New York Daily News reports that a government agency has effectively canceled the concert that was scheduled to take place on September 13 in Santo Domingo. Some have found this ironic since the Dominican Republic is known as the birthplace of dirty dancing.

The official statement explains the decision to not allow Miley to play because the former Disney princess “undertakes acts that go against morals and customs, which are punishable by Dominican law.”

It remains to be seen what the people who paid good money for the tickets that have been on sale since July are going to do, but it's expected that the agency running the concert will offer full refunds.

This is not the first time that Miley gets a ban to play in a country. Earlier this year, she and Justin Timberlake's concerts were denied in Finland, but that time it was political reasons that had everything to do with the Russian embargo since the arena the singers were supposed to play on was owned by Russian businessmen who were close to president Putin.

Eventually, things got sorted out and the good people of Finland were able to enjoy seeing Miley on stage. But that doesn't mean that Miley's Bangerz tour hasn't been filled with controversy and often deemed vulgar.

Many outraged parents resorted to selling their children's tickets before the show, even at a loss, in order to prevent them from attending Miley's performance which sent many running for the hills. On stage, the singer talks about smoking marijuana, shows up in skimpy outfits that leave nothing to the imagination and engages in lewd gestures such as crotch grabbing and simulating self-pleasuring herself.

Some Americans were deeply offended by the fact that Miley at one point grinds on stage on a man wearing an Abraham Lincoln mask, considering a direct slight to their national history. But that didn't stop Cyrus, on the contrary, it gave her the necessary edge to bring in more fans who wanted to see just how outrageous her concert was.

Miley and controversy have become synonymous these days, as the singer has been through an intricate process of reinventing herself ever since that shocking 2013 VMAs performance which is still making people angry.

As the 2014 VMAs are winding up to air on TV, some insiders have come forward and revealed that the entire twerking performance with Robin Thicke was rehearsed and that the producers knew full well what they were getting into from the start.
