A while back, singer, songwriter and actress Miley Cyrus was telling her fans she would be taking a break from recording music to come up with a sound that would describe her better, now that she was grown up. As it turns out, Miley might be taking a longer break than expected, since she’s determined to focus on forging a career in movies, as she says for
Hollywood Life.
The star will be seen next in the drama “The Last Song,” where she gets to play a part that was written especially for her. The film also marks the first step she takes away from the Hannnah Montana franchise and, Miley hopes, from breaking free of that image. With the risk of upsetting some fans, Miley announces she wants to have a successful career in movies, which means music will come in second – however, she’d like to do that, if possible, without losing that “Miley factor.”
“I’ve gone these last five years… with everyone telling me what to do. Now it’s up to me, and what I think is right in my career, so I’m just going in my own direction. This film [‘The Last Song’] was the test for me to decide what I really wanted to do, and I love making movies. That’s what I want to pursue. It’s not that I don’t love music. I love music. If every film could have music, I would do that. But I feel like I just need to get away from that for a little while. It’s my security blanket and I don’t want to always fall back on that,” Miley tells the aforementioned e-zine.
“I have to be careful, in a sense, to not lose who I am or the Miley Cyrus factor, by going to do other characters. I still want [my fans] to know who I am, but I want to extend my audience. I want to continue to do what I love, but also give myself new challenges and not just be the same person, over and over. […] The Hannah Montana wig is out as soon as we finish that last episode. One will be in a museum and one will be burned, or something. I can’t put it on again. It’s just too much,” the young star goes on to say.
“The Last Song” also stars Greg Kinnear, Bobby Coleman, Liam Hemsworth and Kelly Preston, and comes with the tagline “Do you ever really forget your first heartbreak?” just so fans know what they’re to expect from it. It will be out in theaters in the US on March 31, so keep an eye on this space for more on this.
