Of course, she could just be doing this to anger Selena Gomez

Oh Miley, you are so controversial! The “Wrecking Ball”singer is so controversial that you don't even know if she's being serious when she speaks up for her fellow artists in the industry. But that must be part of her appeal.

Justin Bieber's last month was not one of his best moments: he was caught in a racial scandal when videos of him saying and singing some really racist things leaked, and he stands to be accused of criminal vandalism. But, at least, he's reunited with Selena Gomez, the love of his life, although we're still not sure that goes into the winning column.

Now, Miley, in her infinite wisdom and graciousness, spoke for the Canadian crooner on TV, in an interview on the Today Show with Richard Wilkins. She chose to stand up for Bieber by saying that “I think people should have time to grow up and figure out who they are.”

She was referring to the fact that people like her and Bieber are constantly scrutinized on social media and in the press, and their actions and words are interpreted in a thousand ways. “I think people need to sit and think of the times in their lives they were not proud of who they were,” she warned and added “Imagine if that was completely exploited and everyone had their opinions,” just to make her point.

One could argue at this point that if singers can't help themselves from being controversial on social media, then they could very well stay away from it and terminate their accounts, in order to avoid the media storm and the frenzy, but that doesn't really happen, does it?

The reason is because social media is also a free medium in which you can promote yourself and get your point across. Of course, most of the artists abuse this privilege and ignore the consequences, only to regret it later and blame it on the public.

However, in a rare moment of self-awareness, Miley added that she knew what she was getting herself into right from the start, so she really can't complain. Except she does, constantly, in case you follow her on Twitter, but that's a whole different discussion.

We're curious to know what Selena Gomez thinks of Miley Cyrus after hearing what she has to say about Justin Bieber in this interview. The two singers are still at odds and it's highly unlikely that Gomez is going to take this interview any way other than an insult to her.
