Ever since choreographer Kenny Ortega and Lionsgate proudly announced plans for a “Dirty Dancing” remake, people have been dying to know who will play the leads, once portrayed by Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. Miley Cyrus’ name has now been thrown in the mix. Though Ortega underlined that casting is not even underway, since the script isn’t done yet, fans of the original film, a classic by all means, have been tossing ideas in the blogosphere about who might take on the iconic roles.
Apparently, the consensus is that Lionsgate will try to make the movie more appealing to younger audiences by bringing on board actors with whom they are very familiar.
In other words, the likes of Zac Efron from “High School Musical” or even Robert Pattinson of the “Twilight” fame might get to play the role that made Swayze a legend.
As for the female lead, Baby – she could be played by Disney darling Miley Cyrus or perhaps Kristen Stewart, also from “Twilight,”

If need be, Lionsgate will probably sacrifice the wonderful love story and almost everything else in a bid to capitalize on the fame of the original film, the e-zine says, lamenting that another classic will be remade and, in the process, destroyed.
“Who better to assure big profits than the world’s most popular living male, Justin Bieber? And while these ‘artists’ are planning our entertainment future they are thinking that Miley Cyrus would be perfect match for the role of Baby, the female lead,” the e-zine writes.
“So far, the other stars under consideration for the role of ‘heartthrob’ Johnny Castle include Justin Timberlake, Rob Pattinson, Derek Hough, and Selena Gomez’s long-ago crush – Zac Efron. Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus’s competition includes Glee’s Lea Michele and Emma Stone,” CDL further says.
The possibility to bring two huge stars who are already an item in real life is not excluded, if one is to believe reports now making the rounds online.
For instance, Ortega and producers could get Bieber and girlfriend Selena Gomez to play the onscreen lovers, or even Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
For the time being, though, this is pure speculation: a release date and the cast will be announced by the movie studio in due time.
