As she promised in the opening monolog, no twerking was involved

Miley Cyrus promised in her SNL opening monolog that she wouldn’t be twerking or swinging on wrecking balls in her underwear during her performances on the show and, as you will see for yourself in the videos below, she kept her word.

The 20-year-old entertainer hosted this week’s edition of Saturday Night Live and was also featured as musical guest. She has a new album, “Bangerz,” to promote, so that makes sense.

Her first performance was “Wrecking Ball,” which was as solid as it’s ever going to be. Miley really sang her heart out and, for once, it was good not to have so many visuals distract from the music. Read: she kept her clothes on. Sort of.

She also performed “We Can’t Stop,” which was a bit of a surprise because Miley went all acoustic for it.

I felt the song got a touch of country this way and I liked it precisely because of that. However, hearing her sing “We run things, things don’t run we” while emoting cracked me up. Admit it, this isn’t really the deepest thing to say on a pop track.

Check out the two performances below and let me know in the comments section what you thought of them.
