Miley Cyrus knew full well that she had to do something outrageous to get the press talking about her new tour, “Bangerz,” that everyone already knew was going to be provocative.
The “Wrecking Ball” singer has remodeled her image into a controversial presence in the musical industry so her latest venture couldn't be anything less than a huge attention-grabber.
But no one could have imagined what the former Disney star would do during her performance just to make the headlines. Apart from already outrageous moments on stage that included acts mimicking self-pleasure and very revealing outfits, Miley also decided that it would be a good idea to put a thong a fan had thrown on stage in her mouth during her performance.
The move could very well be a publicity stunt and thus carefully planned in advance so that Miley wouldn't put someone's used underwear in her mouth, but it's still a stomach-churning gesture that left many fans who witnessed the scene appalled.
Many tweeted their disgust and even provided photographic evidence of the event, which then sparked outrage on social media and in the news.
Remember, we're talking about the show that Miley said was going to be “educational” for kids. So far, it's done nothing else than degrade the singer who is a self-confessed “punk-rock chick” and a model for so many young women.
The pop princess hinted that her outrageous antics were something of a performance art, which, these days, is becoming the perfect excuse to acting cocky. She said in an interview with Fuse News that “Even though parents probably won’t think this, I think my show is educational for kids because of the art they’re going to be exposed to that most people don’t know about.”
Many have failed to see the connection between female empowerment and chewing dirty underwear on stage, but one thing is certain: Miley is getting all the attention she was banking on, although she had to stoop pretty low to achieve it.
