A while back, Disney darling Miley Cyrus was saying that her next project would be “edgier” in sound and topics because she wanted it to be the next step in her evolution as a recording artist. “Can’t Be Tamed,” her next album, which is believed to go down a rock-inspired path, drops this summer and Miley already has a first single off it out – along with a brand new video, MTV News says.

The video, which premiered on E! a few hours ago, shows Miley with an entirely different look and attitude from what fans got to see from her these past few years. It’s clear that she’s all grown up and she’s not making any secret out of it: in fact, the very concept of the video is about how she’s not to be changed, how she must be allowed her freedom and not be caged like some exotic bird. To drive the metaphor home, Miley is Avis Cyrus, a gorgeous creature dressed in tight black leather clothes, with huge black wings to match, which she uses to hide herself from the camera.

The vid opens with shots of a posh exhibition, where uptight (and somewhat fashion-confused) bird lovers have gathered to see the creature everybody believed to be extinct. Once the curtain is drawn, from a huge nest in the middle of it emerges the creature in question: Avis Cyrus. One flap of her giant wings and dancers in clothes matching hers emerge, and they proceed to trashing the museum and basically proving that Miley “can’t be changed” and “can’t be tamed.”

“The reason I loved doing this video is because I wanted it to be something different for a female artist. It is a [hot] video, and you can’t really take that away from it, but it’s not the premise. It’s not a new Miley; it’s just a new part of me,” Miley said on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show shortly after the video was released online. She also said that she hoped her fans, the ones who got to know her in her Disney phase, would choose to grow up with her, thus, accompany her on this new journey she’d just started.

In the same interview, she also set the record straight on her new image: both her mother and her boyfriend Liam Hemsworth were present on set while she shot the video, and both agreed that it wasn’t a forced stage in her evolution. Below is the video for “Can’t Be Tamed.” Enjoy.
