Though critics are still not warming up to the more “mature” sound Miley Cyrus is bringing to the table with her latest album, “Can’t Be Tamed,” she says the fans will know what to make of it. Though it may easily be mistaken for a party album that’s all about fun, her latest studio material is both that and an empowering album for women all over the world, the 17-year-old singer tells MTV News in a brand new interview.

The title of the album should speak volumes in this sense, Miley seems to say. Her message is addressed to all women out there who are either stuck in a position or in a relationship that’s damaging to them, and it’s meant to empower them to find a way out. The saying “one should never judge a book by its cover” applies to the letter to Cyrus’ new release: it’s not just another record of a former teen sensation looking to show she’s grown up, but also something that should help other women as well gain confidence in themselves.

“Miley Cyrus has always been about girl power. Her tracks like ‘7 Things’ and ‘The Climb’ may at first glance seem like party anthems or weepy ballads, but she thinks that upon closer inspection her lyrics empower young women. And she says the tracks on her new album, Can’t Be Tamed, are no different. ‘I think Tamed does it the best, and Liberty Walk,’ she told MTV News. ‘It’s just about freeing yourself from anything you think is holding you back. And I think that’s really important, especially for girls, because so many people are told, No, you can’t do something, or, You need to be this because Mom and Dad say that, teachers say this’,” MTV writes.

“Her advice? Try to see what advice makes the most sense for your life. ‘Really think about what you want to do for the rest of your life,’ the 17-year-old said. ‘There’s a short amount of time, when you think about it, and no day needs to go by wasted.’ As for Liberty Walk, Cyrus said she tried to combine a very serious topic with a lighter sound. ‘I wrote it for women that feel like they’re stuck in abusive relationships, but it’s a dance song,’ she said. ‘So you think that must be kind of a sad ballad, but it’s a party song... It’s about breaking free’,” the same media outlet further informs.

Miley’s “Can’t Be Tamed” is seen as a step away from her previous sound and typically Disney image, into the realm of adulthood. So far, fans’ reaction to the change has been good though, as we also informed you yesterday, critics would beg to differ.
