Shortly after Demi Moore announced that her marriage to Ashton Kutcher was officially over and that they had effectively separated, and he was romantically linked to Mila Kunis, Mila was denying the reports by saying they’d been good friends since their “That ‘70s Show” days.

At least that part was a lie, sources from the set of the series tell Radar Online, because Mila and Ashton actually hated each other back then. It was a surprise to anyone who knew them to hear that they were a couple – and an even bigger surprise to hear more recently that they had gotten engaged.

Things were so bad between them on the set that, even though they played lovers, they could barely stand to be in the same room.

“Everyone shakes their head over the romance. Ashton and Mila were absolutely not friends during much of the making of That ’70s Show. In fact, they couldn’t stand working together. The two were never close on the set. Quite the opposite!” says an unnamed tipster.

So what changed?

According to other spies, after Demi decided she’d had enough of Ashton’s cheating and she took the axe to their 6-year marriage, the handsome “Two and Half Men” star was going through a very rough patch.

It was Mila who reached out to him then, offering him a shoulder to cry on. She wanted to bury the hatchet and become friends with Ashton, just like they never got to be when they were working together.

“She could see Ashton was going through a tough time and reached out to him. They built a solid friendship, which was a new thing for both of them,” says an insider.

Eventually, their friendship evolved and they became an item romantically as well. No one imagined it would happen precisely because of their previous history and how badly they got along when they worked together, but it’s great that it happened.

Mila and Ashton are yet to say anything on the record about their romance, but she has been spotted wearing a huge diamond ring on her engagement finger and unnamed friends swear that he popped the question to her weeks ago.

While they’re yet to confirm or deny this, the tabloids are trying to guess when they might be tying the knot – assuming, of course, they ever get to settle a rumored dispute about a prenuptial contract, which he wants but she doesn’t because she thinks it would be a bad omen for their relationship.
