MikroTik has just released a new firmware package, namely RouterOS version 6.16, which is compatible with all of its devices, such as routers, access points, routerboards, range extenders, and others.

This new update resolves a potential packet corruption regarding L2TP, PPTP, and PPPoE protocols encountered when disabling encryption, fixes the oVPN ethernet mode, adds SHA256 certificates for fingerprinting, and updates timezone information.

If this release is applied, the IPSec will allow multiple encryption algorithms per peer. Moreover, USB share issues spotted after a reboot are now removed, VPN settings are added to HomeAP mode, and CCR compatible devices will benefit from latency improvements.

In addition to that, 802.11ac wireless standard support has been added, TLS email connections are now supported, and a rare file system corruption has been fixed. Also, the GPS retry duration is increased to 30 seconds, AES encryption can now be used.

Random disconnections over encrypted tunnels are not to be encountered anymore, IPSec can now be enabled automatically through the L2TP server, and power-cycle-ping and power-cycle-interval settings are added to the PoE-Out feature.

If you intend to apply this update, you should also know that dynamic servers won’t be ignored when disabling or enabling the SNTP client, and the IPSec AH proposal issue, as well as the one where policy isn’t generating, are now resolved.

That being said, download MikroTik RouterOS 6.16 for your specific device model, apply it on the product, and enjoy the changes that this newly-released update brings about.
