MikroTik has just outed a new firmware version developed for all of its devices, such as routers, switches, access points, router boards, and many others, namely RouterOS 6.13, which includes several changes that improve the overall performance, stability, and usability.

Specifically speaking, this newly-released software resolves SSTP crash issues, reduces the CPU usage while displaying static LCD screens, and fixes occasional L2TP server lockup problems as well as PPTP memory leak bugs.

In addition to that, if this latest firmware is applied, backups will be encrypted with a password by default, comment characters are now accepted to start a new command (such as “/” or “:”), and files that include “.sensitive.” in their name will require “sensitive” permissions in order to be used.

As for installing this release, get and extract the proper downloadable archive for your MikroTik device (there are 4 pages that include several models, so make sure to get the correct package) and connect to the unit using Windbox.

Now, simply copy all the .npk files from within the newly-created folder onto the root directory of the device’s files menu (you can also do that by using any FTP program). After the upload has finished, just reboot the unit and check the currently installed version to ensure it has been successfully applied.

That being said, download MikroTik RouterOS 6.13 for your specific model, apply the latest software, and enjoy your newly-updated device.
