Mike Sorrentino, better known as The Situation from MTV's Jersey Shore, is in rehab. Reports online claim he's battling a drug and alcohol addiction, but his rep insists he's just exhausted.

TMZ was the first to break the news, saying The Situation has already completed a few weeks of the treatment.

“'The Situation' is in rehab for substance abuse. Sources tell TMZ the Jersey Shore star – aka Mike Sorrentino – has checked into an inpatient treatment program,” TMZ reports.

Shortly after word of this got out in the press, Sorrentino's publicist issued a statement to various media outlets, E! News included, confirming reports.

The rep says the reality star has been in rehab for some time already, but he doesn't say what kind of addiction brought him there.

Instead, he blames “exhaustion” for it.

“He has spent the past several weeks at an undisclosed location for much needed rest and recuperation after his extensive production and appearance schedule,” says the publicist.

As TMZ points out, seeing how The Situation has been on a constant promo tour ever since he shot to fame with Jersey Shore 2 years ago, it wouldn't be that surprising if he also had an issue with alcohol abuse.

After all, “promo” appearances for Jersey Shore stars means showing up at parties or clubs, where sponsors are usually alcohol retailers.

In other Jersey Shore-related news, MTV has announced that the controversial yet very popular series will return for another season, despite assurances that it will end at number 5.

“While things will definitely be a little different this time when they hit the boardwalk, their trademark hilarity and family dysfunction will remain the same,” the network says in a press statement on the upcoming season 6.

It will start shooting this summer. Snooki, one of its stars, is pregnant with her first child, so this should make for an interesting change to the scenery.
