14 DAY TRIAL // Earlier this year, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee closed the 2015 National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Nashville, Tennessee, with a little joke about how he wished he would have thought to say he was transgender in high school, because he would have gotten to shower with the girls in PE.
Though this happened some time ago, it’s just now that video of said joke has emerged online. As it happens, it came out just as Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, made her big debut on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine.

Huckabee says that this “social experiment” that transgender people are running is putting little girls at risk because it would imply any adult man feeling “more like a woman than a man” would be allowed to use the same restroom as the girls.
If he’d thought of it when he was a teenager, he would have claimed to be transgender as well, just so he could gain access into the girls’ shower room in PE.
“I’m pretty sure that I would have found my feminine side and said, ‘Coach, I think I’d rather shower with the girls today.’ You’re laughing because it sounds so ridiculous, doesn’t it?” Huckabee told the audience.
Because Caitlyn Jenner’s first outing came after Bruce’s struggle for over 5 decades with his true identity, her gesture is being hailed as one of pure courage, because she’s transitioning publicly as a means to help other transpeople. This also explains why the Huckabee video is getting increased attention online.
