A little over a week ago, the sister of British singer Mika was rushed to a hospital in London after she fell off the ledge of her apartment and was impaled in the steel railings below. She is now in stable condition.
At the time the freak accident occurred, a rep for Mika wouldn’t speak of her condition, saying only that she was receiving due medical attention and that the family had asked for privacy.
“Paloma had a serious accident. She is in a critical but stable state. The family have asked for privacy at this time,” a rep for the singer said, as we also
informed you.
Now, it’s Mika himself who’s updating fans on Paloma’s condition and, at the same time, thanking the doctors who took good care of her,
Now Magazine reports.
“We would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and kindness,” the 27-year-old singer says in a post on his official website, as cited by Now.
Paloma Penniman is believed to have lost her balance while sitting on the ledge of her apartment in Kensington, fell 50ft and was impaled in the steel railings.
Mika called the ambulance in the early hours of Sunday morning; it is believed Paloma was taken to the hospital with the railings still in her because she’d been stabbed in her leg and abdomen and they needed to be cut.
“Paloma is in a stable condition. She has undergone extensive surgery to her legs and surgery to her abdomen,” Mika further says in the same statement.
“We feel extremely lucky and we are eternally grateful to the helicopter response unit, doctors and nurses of the Royal London for saving her life,” adds the singer.
At the time of the accident, Scotland Yard also confirmed the report of the freak accident, confirming the identity of the victim as Paloma Penniman.
“Police were called to an address at 5.15 (Sunday) morning after reports a woman was impaled on railings after falling from a window,” a spokesperson for the police said.
