The sister of British singer Mika is in critical condition in the hospital after she fell 15m out the window and was impaled in the railings of a steel fence below.

As News.NineMSN can confirm, the accident occurred while Paloma Penniman, 28, was sitting on the ledge of her window in her London apartment.

Something made her lose her balance and she fell out, landing on the steel fence that surrounded the building. She is now in hospital and her condition is listed as critical.

“Paloma Penniman, 28, fell over 15m from the third-floor window in Kensington, west London, on Sunday morning after she lost her balance while sitting on a ledge,” says the aforementioned e-zine.

British tabloid The Sun was the first to break the news of the freak accident and Scotland Yard police have since confirmed it.

“It is believed firefighters had to cut a section of the railings before Penniman was taken to hospital with them still in her,” News.NineMSN says.

Just before the accident occurred, Paloma and Mika, who also work together since she sang backing vocals on his most recent album, had been out to dinner.

“A hysterical Mika called for emergency help to her home in Kensington, West London, just after 5am,” says the aforementioned publication.

As noted above, the Scotland Yard has confirmed that there was a severe accident and that Mika’s sister was involved in it.

“Police were called to an address at 5.15 (Sunday) morning after reports a woman was impaled on railings after falling from a window,” a spokesperson for the police told the media.

Contacted for comment, Mika also issued a statement on Paloma’s condition through his publicist. He’s not offering too many details about it, though.

“Paloma had a serious accident. She is in a critical but stable state. The family have asked for privacy at this time,” the statement reads in full.
