Current customers using Google Apps and thinking about making the jump to Microsoft’s Cloud can gain some insight on the migration and Office 365 in a TechNet webcast this week.

The TechNet Webcast: Migrating from Google Apps to Office 365 (Level 200) is scheduled to take place on November 15, 2011, starting with 1:00 PM Time zone: (GMT-08:00) Pacific Time (US & Canada).

For one hour, Kanwal Khipple, principal SharePoint architect, BrightStarr, will talk about the rival offerings from the Mountain View search giant and the Redmond company, and about the steps needed to transition from the first to the latter.

“Attend this session if you or your organization is considering migrating to Microsoft Office 365. Kanwal Khipple clearly explains the differences between Google Apps and Office 365, as well as compares the benefits, limitations, and costs of Office 365 and Google Apps,” reads an excerpt from the webcast’s synopsis.

“Knowing the clear benefits, Kanwal also walks you through how to migrate from Google Apps to Office 365. Learn the best practices and gotchas before you begin your own migration.”

According to the synopsis, it might be a good idea even for customers that are new to Cloud productivity to watch this particular webcast.

After all, before deciding to go for either Google Apps or Office 365, users should get as much information as they can about which of the two is better suited to their needs.

As far as Microsoft’s Cloud productivity offerings are concerned, the software giant continues to allow customers to test a 30 day trial of Office 365 free of charge.

There are currently two trial versions of Office 365, one for professionals and small businesses and the other for midsize businesses and enterprises.

Customers that rely heavily on the desktop Office productivity suite, as well on the associated server offerings, including Lync, SharePoint and Exchange, should definitely also test the integration between their existing investments and Office 365 in comparison to Google Apps.
