It’s been quite a ride for Keiji Inafune’s Mighty No. 9 project on Kickstarter. The hype around the project was so high that it managed to smash through all goals developers unveiled during the campaign.

No less than 16 goals were reached during the Kickstarter campaign turning Mighty No. 9 from a $1M (€740K) project into a game with at least a $4M (€2.96) budget.

The last 48 hours were crazy for Inafune’s project as backers were able to pledge several hundred dollars, thus smashing through the last five goals left.

This means that the team behind the project will be able to bring the game to most platforms now available on the gaming market, including PC, Linux, Mac, PS3, Xbox 360, PS Vita, 3DS, PS4 and Xbox One.

Although the Kickstarter campaign for Mighty No. 9 ended up with $3,845,170 (€2.844.480), developers had enough money pledged via PayPal in order to clear the $4M (€2.96) goal (Online Battle Race Mode).

That being said, Might No. 9 has just become the third most funded Kickstarter video game in history. It’s unclear if developers will be able to deliver the game as previously announced or if they will have to delay it in order to include all the new features added by the stretch goals.

Not to mention that the game will now be released on most consoles, so the next 18 months of development will be crazy for the team behind Might No. 9.

For those unfamiliar with the project, Mighty No. 9 is the spiritual successor of Mega Man and is set for release in April 2015. This might seem plenty of time for developers, but with all the stretch goals achieved, delays are possible.

As a thank you note to all backers, the Mighty No. 9 team has offered a tribute, along with a special new arrangement from their main theme composer Matsumae-san, which you can watch below.
