Ubisoft has revealed the upcoming expansion for its free to play online card battling game Might & Magic: Duel of Champions, titled Heart of Nightmares.

The expansion is the largest and most important addition to the game so far, bringing a ton of new content such as new heroes, a new base set and over 100 new cards, as well as entirely new gameplay features such as puzzles, expanding the strategic possibilities on the battleground.

Each of the game's six factions just got one new hero, and each hero comes with different powers that require players to devise and employ new strategies during battles.

"Our players are quick to adapt and learn the best way to defeat opponents with the cards in their deck, so we are continuing to give players new hero options to keep the game fresh. Each new hero requires players to learn their strengths and weaknesses, shifting their strategy in order to play or defeat them," said Samuel Jobin, producer of Might & Magic Duel of Champions.

Along with the new heroes, the expansion also introduces a new base set, aptly titled Base Set 2. As the game has continuously grown over the last year, the new base set helps rebalance the Might & Magic: Duel of Champions meta-game.

The new set should make the transition from the tutorial mode to duels with other online players easier for newcomers, helping them move to the competitive scene with less hesitation.

Gamers can now choose from two different playing formats. The standard one, which is the official game format for competitions, featuring cards from the Base Set 2 and up, and which will integrate all upcoming series.

The second format is an open one that players can utilize in order to play with all the cards released both prior to the Heart of Nightmares expansion, as well as all the ones that will be released in future updates.

If this wasn't enough already, the expansion delivers even more great news. Ubisoft has listened to the community's voice, and per request, solo campaigns have been extended to a total of 30 missions.

Players can benefit from another solo experience now, in the form of puzzles, where they have to use complex game mechanics in order to zero an enemy's health in only one turn, kind of like Magic: The Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers' challenges.

Furthermore, a new ranking and matchmaking system that uses classes will replace the old ELO system, which showed a number of inconsistencies in the past.

Additionally, the game's economy has been reviewed and some balance tweaks have been implemented, with new series becoming more accessible as they can now be purchased with in-game gold a few weeks after they are launched.

The expansion is completed by some visual updates, sprucing things up on the battlefield, and a complete overhaul of the game interface.
