Hype building at its best

Midway is a struggling developer and publisher of games these days, but, although its financial troubles have been on the map for quite some time, the company is still putting up a good fight. Its new games, like Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, haven't been very successful in sales, but executives are still optimistic about the future projects.

One of these projects will be Wheelman, a sandbox racer where gamers will get the chance to play as Vin Diesel and race through a movie-like story on the streets of Barcelona. The creative director of this game, Simon Woodroffe, recently spoke with Videogamer about the future projects of Midway.

He went on to say that, although he couldn't reveal anything big, he did see a demo of new, unannounced projects from Midway, which looked really good. He further stated that, because Midway was such a big company, it could share its technology between studios, which meant that already a great game was shaping up.

"I just saw a demo of a new Midway game that's in development. I can't tell you too much about it, but they've been on it for three months and it looks as good if not better than Gears 2. This is only possible because of the sharing of technology," said Woodroffe. "It's already looking as good as Gears 2, but the game mechanics are kind of different. It's going to be really big and really important. It's not often, especially when you're a cynical type, that you see a prototype or creative slice and just get blown away by it. But in this case, the hype is justified."

Some very bold words from the developer, but only time will tell if this new Midway game will be as huge as these statements. Without a doubt, Gears of War 2 is a good looking game, but judging from the bugs that caused a lot of frustration among users, gamers won't be impressed by fancy graphics. Let's just hope that Midway will have the financial power to release this game.
