Midnight Commander, a visual file manager and a feature-rich full-screen text mode application that allows users to copy, move, and delete files and whole directory trees, search for files, and run commands in the subshell, is now at version 4.8.12.

Midnight Commander is an old enough application that a lot of its users might be actually younger than its development. Still, the developers found the time to get some new features and changes.

According to the changelog, the speed of the find function has been improved, the support of Zsh is now a lot better, it’s now possible to launch the external editor/viewer without passing line number, the application will now exit without confirmation by default, a simple user-friendly skin selector has been added, and Joliet and RockRidge is now used in the ISO9660 image view action.

Also, the zip extension is now the preferred way to recognize ZIP archives, the name of FSF has been added in the source files, a number of skin cleanups have been implemented, the popup dialogs have been fixed, and more.

A complete list of changes and new features can be found on the official website. Download Midnight Commander 4.8.12 right now from Softpedia.
