You might think the AS Roma - Middlesbrough match in last season's UEFA Cup ended, but you'd be wrong. The English side qualified for the quarterfinals of the competition (2-2 on aggregate, thanks to their away goal) but it seems the home side was not a very good guest.

Exactly 7 months after the 2nd leg in Rome, the Boro officials issued a complaint towards Roman police concerning the events that took place after the match. According to the Englishmen,
the Italian police started beating up the Boro fans and robbed most of them along the way.

David McLuckie, chairman of Cleveland Police Authority, revealed what happened in the night of March 15. "If I hadn't been able to produce my police authority identity I don't know what would have happened".

"Fans were being beaten up and the police were actually stealing private property - not money but perfumes and other items, from the fans. Everyone was fingertip-searched on entry into the ground, and the police behavior was just appalling", stated McLuckie.

The Italian police is yet to issue a statement on what happened that night and answer all these allegations. In the meantime, the European Parliament - where the contestation was registered - admitted that they will look closer into the matter and question both sides before giving the final verdict.

"We have only heard one side of the story so far, but the European Parliament is taking this further and seeing if we can get a response to these allegations", said a spokesman from the European body.

According to the Boro officials, the English club wants the Rome police, as well as the Italian Football Federation, to issue public apologies for the incidents. Whether FIFA and UEFA will punish Middlesborugh for turning to an "outside institution" to solve this problem, we are yet to find out.
