Monolith Productions has unveiled their official Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor E3 trailer, a thrilling cinematic offering titled Gravewalker.

"The Lord of the Rings" series has inspired most modern fantasy works of fiction, including brilliant film adaptations and some less than impressive video games that got some attention from fans but were generally considered pretty average, with the exception of the Lego games.

"All of us here at Monolith Productions have been excited about this week for quite some time, and for good reason. Ever since we first revealed Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor to the world we've continued our hard work on it, and we're ready to give some new peeks into the lands that you’ll soon be telling your own stories in," the announcement on the PlayStation Blog reads.

The video offers a glimpse into the world of Talion, the Ranger of The Black Gate who witnessed his family being killed at the hands of Sauron's minions.

After being denied death by a mysterious Wraith, Talion continues to fight on, empowered by the ancient spirit. The wraith turns out to be a spirit of vengeance holding a grudge against Sauron himself, which is just peachy, considering Talion's own quest for revenge.

The trailer is set in the wake of a great battle, with a captain of Sauron's army realizing that the mayhem around him was actually caused by Talion, the Gravewalker, as the sole survivor of the onslaught, an Uruk tasked with delivering a fateful message, tells him of what he saw and who's next. The big bad captain is next, of course. Only he's not so big and bad anymore, as it turns out.

Monolith Productions intends to show more of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor at this year's edition of the E3 gaming expo, taking place next week in Los Angeles, California, where gamers can expect to experience live gameplay from the action-adventure title for the first time.

Attendees of E3 will be able to see the action first-hand, as Talion ventures forth into the Sea of Nurnen, a location of great strategic importance, that Sauron uses to feed his ever-growing war machine.

The developers are always making tiny reveals on the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor instagram page, from showcasing the improved facial animations that make the orcs so expressively ugly to in-game screenshots and fun facts about the region of Mordor.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is set to come out on October 7, 2014, for the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms.
