In an interview given right after the launching of Windows Mobile 5.0 to a German newspaper, Bill Gates said that Research in Motion, Blackberry's creators, is the main rival of the new operating system, especially because of the Push E-mail technology.

So today, through the voice of Steve Ballmer, Microsoft has announced that it will launch Messaging and Security Feature
Pack (MSFP) for Windows Mobile 5.0, which will be available together with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) towards the end of the year.

The new technology will allow companies to redirect the incoming e-mails from the server directly onto the employees' mobile equipments. All that the email server's administrators will have to do to take advantage of this opportunity is to install Exchange 2003 SP2.

Obviously, Windows Mobile Direct Push Technology will be compatible with Outlook. Moreover, the new technology will be also integrated in the Office Mobile, which means that e-mails sent/received from/by the mobile device will allow attachments, such as Word, Excel or Powerpoint documents, to be added.

With this decision, Microsoft hopes to boost the selling of mobile phones that run Windows Mobile 5.0; this solution is on the second place, the leading position being occupied by Symbian.
