During the TechEd 2005 event, Steve Ballmer, Chief Executive at Microsoft, has talked about a new messaging system and a new set of security services for Windows Mobile 5.0.

The software is based on new wireless functions which will be included in the next Service Pack for Exchange Server 2003. From the statements made by Ballmer, these functions
are also aimed at improving the security and scalability management.

One will be able to transmit e-mails, calendar and contacts included in Outlook through a direct connection established between an Exchange Server and a Windows Mobile device, without having to install a supplementary server infrastructure.

The messaging and security implementations will focus on improving the efficiency of IT departments by changing the security management methods. Administrators will be able to control the Windows Mobile devices similarly to the way they control PCs and servers.

Such a function will offer administrators the possibility to apply the IT departments' internal sets of rules through the wireless networks. In this way, it will be possible to assign a password to each mobile device and grant general or special accessing rights.
