Today, Microsoft should unveil all there is to know on its new Windows Phone 8 platform at an event set to take place in San Francisco at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, and will also provide enthusiasts with the possibility to watch the event from their homes.

The company will live stream the event online, so that more people will be able to learn details on its new operating system version and on the features and capabilities it is set to provide users with.

“You can watch the live stream, which is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Pacific, on either the Microsoft News Center or our Facebook page, where you can also see what people are tweeting about and join the conversation,” the company notes.

Smartphones running under Microsoft’s new operating system have already been made official, yet the company and its hardware partners are yet to offer specific info on when they are set to become available for purchase.

According to some of the latest reports on the matter, this should happen only a few days after today’s event, most probably starting with early November, though only in a few select markets.

Nokia, HTC and Samsung are the main providers of Windows Phone 8 devices, but other companies are also expected to go official with such devices in the near future.

Compared to the current Windows Phone 7.5, the Windows Phone 8 platform will bring along a variety of enhancements, starting with support for better hardware, such as higher resolution screens, multi-core processors, higher-quality cameras and the like.

At the same time, the platform comes with support for better applications and services, all aimed at delivering a far better experience than before.

Overall, Windows Phone 8 should prove a game changer for Microsoft, one that should help the company regain the market share it has been losing on the mobile phone market for quite a while now.

Enthusiasts are hoping that the new platform release will manage to live up to its name, and handset vendors do the same. Specifically, Nokia is the most interested in making sure that Windows Phone 8 is a major boom, especially with its market presence and shares falling fast lately.

All those who are interested in learning more on what Windows Phone 8 will be able to offer should keep an eye on Microsoft’s New Center or Facebook page for more info. We’ll also provide you with updates on what will be announced today, so stay tuned.
