Back in March, Microsoft announced that it had a nice surprise for owners of the Xiaomi 4 phone who were curious about the charms of Windows 10 Mobile.

Xiaomi and Microsoft didn’t actually enter a partnership, but the fact remains that Mi4 users were promised a special Windows Phone ROM. Well, today we have more info to share with you about the arrival of the said ROM.

According to a report coming out of Italian website Windows Blog Italia, Xiaomi and Microsoft are getting ready to unleash the ROM and we even have a date for it. So circle June 1 in your calendar if you want to try Windows 10 Mobile on your Xiaomi device.

In order to be eligible to try out the custom ROM, you will need to sign up in here.

Xiaomi devices ship out with unlocked ROMs, meaning that it is quite easy for users to load alternative Android ROMs or even other operating systems. And Xiaomi took a chance trying to offer Mi 4 users some diversity.

The availability of the ROM is quite limited

The sad part is that only Xiaomi Mi4 owners located in China will be able to take advantage of the upcoming Windows Phone ROM, so if you’re not located within the country’s borders, you aren’t eligible to receive access.

Last month, we got to look at a video showing the Xiaomi Mi4 running Windows 10 Mobile. Apart from the fact that it’s pretty weird to see an Android phone running Windows Phone, the footage revealed that the Xiaomi Mi4 actually runs very well on a Microsoft mobile platform. No noticeable lag is to be observed, as you can see in the video for yourselves.

The Mi4 is Xiaomi’s current flagship, which launched back in July 2014. The phone arrives with a 5-inch display boasting 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution with 441 ppi.

It draws life from a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with Adreno 330 GPU and works in concert with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

In the camera department, the phone offers the services of a 13MP / 8MP camera combo. The Mi4 is expected to be succeeded by the Mi5, which should make a debut sometime in November.
