Microsoft will officially discontinue the preview version of Windows 8.1 today, so all users still running this particular build are strongly recommended to update to the full release of the operating system as soon as possible.

Windows 8.1 Preview was officially launched in June 2013 at the BUILD developer conference as a testing flavor for users who wanted to try out the first Windows 8.1 update.

Microsoft offered it for free to Windows 8 users via a Windows Store download that could be installed with just one click and in a matter of minutes.

Now that Windows 8.1 is finally available, all those running Windows 8.1 Preview and Windows RT 8.1 Preview need to make the switch to the final build of the operating system, which is also free of charge via a Windows Store update.
