The company is again trying to address confusion in the new OS

Microsoft has updated the built-in apps available in Windows 8.1, including the Mail client accessible via the Modern UI, but it turns out that Redmond might change its plans a little bit in the future.

A report published by ZDNet and citing sources familiar with the matter reveals that Microsoft might give up on the Mail and Calendar apps, which are designed by the Windows 8 team, and replace them with the Outlook tool currently offered to Windows RT users in the desktop interface.

While this pretty much means that Microsoft would need to develop a touch-friendly version of Outlook capable of running in the Modern UI, it’s very clear that Redmond needs to address confusion and bring only a single email client across its platforms.

There are no details available right now as to when this is going to happen, but expect the upcoming Spring GDR update aimed at Windows 8.1 computers to bring quite a lot of major changes.
