It turns out that the final version of 8.1 could arrive in August

Microsoft has already announced at the Worldwide Partner Conference 2013 in Houston, Texas that Windows 8.1 would hit RTM next month, but it appears that users could get it at about the same time.

Citing insiders, Microsoft watcher Mary Jo Foley writes that the Softies are trying to bring 8.1 to the market as soon as possible, so “users might be able to get the 8.1 bits simultaneously or very shortly after RTM.”

Previous reports indicated that the final version of 8.1 could be released to users in October, just in time for the holiday season. Microsoft wants the launch of its new operating system to spawn a new wave of devices, be they tablets or hybrids, so the October release date pretty much makes sense.

Keep in mind that Microsoft is yet to comment on these rumors, so take everything with a pinch of salt until the company confirms or denies this report.
