Microsoft is planning to open the first innovation center in the United States in Miami, according to a new report, with the project to officially begin later this spring.

According to a report published by AP, Microsoft will break the news on this new facility sometime today, but it appears that the new center is supposed “to provide resources and technology to help spur economic development, collaboration, and learning.”

Microsoft already has approximately 100 innovation centers in 80 countries worldwide, the same source adds, and the first such facility in the United States will be located in the downtown entrepreneurial institute Venture Hive.

Microsoft's innovation centers are facilities that provide students, startups, developers, and IT professionals with easy access to technologies and services designed by Microsoft, thus trying to boot the growth of the local software industry and thus help the company get closer to potential partners. The company is already looking into similar projects in several other countries around the world, including India and China.

The software giant hasn't yet released an announcement on this, but more details are expected to be provided in just a few hours, so we'll update the article when we get new information from the company itself.
