Rumor has it that Microsoft is planning to provide PC manufacturers with significant Windows 8 discounts in order to bring cheaper devices to the market, but it seems that the company is also trying to tackle the tablet sector with more affordable units.

According to a report by Business Insider citing Topeka Capital analyst Brian White, Microsoft is pondering a new discount campaign that would allow hardware companies to install Windows 8 on their tablets at a lower cost, thus cutting the overall cost of the devices when they hit the market.

While the final price of Windows 8 is not yet disclosed, it appears that Microsoft’s plan is supposed to help the company tackle Android devices, even though the iPad is currently the leader of the market.

Microsoft is yet to publicly confirm its Windows 8 discount plan, but more information will most likely be provided soon, as the promo is expected to commence this month.
