Even though Microsoft remains completely tight-lipped on its future Blue project, the company is reportedly making the final adjustments to the preview version of Windows 8.1, ahead of a final launch in August or September.

Microsoft Portal writes that the Redmond-based technology giant will use the BUILD developer conference in June to introduce the preview version of the first Windows 8 upgrade and, even though rumors on this event have been around for a while, the report also provides some pretty interesting details.

It appears that Microsoft is also planning to host a new Hackathon to invite devs to create Windows 8.1 apps, just like the company did with Indian developers at the previously-held AppFest coding marathons.

If the report is true and Microsoft indeed unveils the preview at BUILD, expect the stable release to emerge in August or September, approximately two months after the test flavor.
