Windows 8.1 will officially debut on October 18, so Redmond has already started its marketing campaign supposed to show the world that its new update brings quite a lot of improvements to the core OS.

According to a report by Digitimes, the tech giant has established much more ambitious plans when it comes to promoting Windows 8.1, with the company now sending executives across the world to showcase the operating system in action.

Microsoft's Executive Vice President of Operating Ssystems Terry Myerson will be travelling to Taiwan in October, the report says, and will visit company partners to discuss the features of the new OS. Both Acer and Asustek are on the list of companies to hold events on Windows 8.1.

Microsoft adopted a similar strategy in late 2012 when Windows 8 hit the shelves, investing no less than $1.5 billion (€1.2 billion) in an aggressive marketing campaign supposed to promote the modern OS.

The campaign has never paid off, as Windows 8 still fails to impress right now, as the operating system is only powering 7 percent of computers worldwide.
