Windows 8.1 will bring lots of improvements for the built-in Xbox Music app, but it appears that Microsoft has many more exciting plans for this particular service.

The Verge writes that the software maker is working to introduce a Spotify-like music streaming service that would be available directly in your browser.

The service would obviously let you stream music and manage playlists using your browser, with sources familiar with the matter hinting that an early version could be launched as soon as next week.

Microsoft hasn’t commented on the possibility to bring Xbox Music in your browser, but the company will roll out a major overhaul for the app together with the Windows 8.1 update.

A new interface, as well as new options and improved search support will be included in Xbox Music after the public launch of Windows 8.1 on June 26.
