Microsoft is expected to launch new flagships running Windows 10 for Phones later this year, most likely after the public debut of its new OS, but little is known right now about these devices.

And yet, in a new press release launched by Qualcomm, a Microsoft official is quoted as saying that the Redmond-based giant is working on a device powered by the Snapdragon 810 processor, which could only be installed on flagships thanks to its powerful capabilities.

The Snapdragon 810, which is currently available on LG G Flex 2 and Xiaomi Mi Note Pro, could be installed on the successor to Lumia 930 or Lumia 1520, both of which have been around for a while and are expected to receive new upgrades this year.

Lumia 930 is currently Microsoft's 5-inch flagship, while the Lumia 1520 is a phablet that provides powerful hardware capabilities with a 6-inch display.

Qualcomm collaboration continues

As far as the new flagship is concerned, little is known right now, but Juha Kokkonen, general manager for portfolio and product management at Microsoft, claims that this project is already on the table right now thanks to Qualcomm's new processor.

“We look forward to continuing this relationship to deliver best in class Lumia smartphones, powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 processors, and offer an unprecedented combination of processing power, rich multimedia, high-performance graphics and wireless connectivity for our customers,” he said.

The next flagships running Windows 10 for Phones should ship in the fall of 2015, the same date when Microsoft is expected to introduce the new operating system on all platforms. More details on Microsoft's plans for smartphones will be provided next month at MWC in Barcelona, when the company could also present some new devices powered by Windows Phone 8.1.
