A brand new phone got certified in Indonesia

It’s not a secret that Microsoft is working to expand its Lumia series of phones and several new handsets are being developed as we speak, but there’s a new report which appears to suggest that a new Windows Phone device is closer than we think.

NokiaPowerUser has come across new evidence that a device called RM-1072, which had already been spotted in logs in late 2014 by AdDuplex, is being prepared by Microsoft right now and has recently passed certification in Indonesia.

Very little is known about this new project at this point, but Microsoft is very likely to be working to expand the mid-range series of phones, so it’s very unlikely to be a flagship.

People close to the matter previously said that flagships wouldn’t be here until the fall of 2015, when Microsoft is expected to introduce Windows Phone 10, and if we are to trust these reports, today’s spotted device is certainly a mid-ranger or a budget model.

5-inch display likely to be offered

According to information previously provided by AdDuplex, the new device could come with a 5-inch 720p display, which is another sign that Microsoft isn’t yet looking at flagships in order to expand its lineup of Lumia models.

Other details are not available right now, but given the fact that the phone is set to arrive so soon, expect it to be powered by Windows Phone 8.1, obviously with Denim available from the get-go.

Other rumored specs include 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage space, but these details are uncertain right now, as information on the new phone is still scarce at this point.

As far as the launch date is concerned, there’s nothing confirmed so far, but it appears that the Mobile World Congress taking place in March 2015 is the right moment to introduce new phones for Microsoft as well, so expect several new Lumia models to show their face at the event in Barcelona, approximately two months from now.
