Microsoft is focusing more on its phone lineup and the company is reportedly readying a new important update rollout for the Lumia series.

The company hasn't confirmed this, but a new report claims via anonymous sources that the Lumia Denim update could be here in approximately two weeks, with the rollout expected to take more than a couple of months.

NokiaPowerUser reports today that the firmware update should be shipped to a number of devices in just a couple of weeks, but others could get it in late December, depending on Microsoft's planned release schedule.

The last week of October or the first week of November are very likely to bring the Denim update to a number of Lumia phones, the source points out, adding that this timeline could change overnight, depending on Microsoft's plan for its smartphone series.

What's new in Lumia Denim

Lumia Denim is quite an eagerly-anticipated update because it brings a lot of improvements to Lumia phones, including hands-free activation for Cortana personal assistant in markets where this feature is already available. Basically, users will only have to say “Hey Cortana” to launch the personal assistant, all thanks to the SensorCore technology available on Lumia phones.

At the same time, Denim will include important enhancements in terms of speed and performance, with the camera expected to take shots faster than on current firmware versions.

And speaking of camera, devices running Denim will come with Lumia Camera instead of Nokia Camera for increased speed and a revamped UI. What's more, Microsoft will make it possible for Lumia users to start 4K video recording at 24 FPS by simply pressing the camera button longer.

Last but not least, the glance screen feature will also come with improvements, including data from Bing Weather, Bing Health & Fitness, and possibly even more apps. Such capabilities have already been implemented with the latest glance update, but more are to come in Denim.

Lumia Denim is already available on both Nokia Lumia 730 and 830, two of the recently-launched smartphones that are said to come with all the aforementioned improvements.

As you can see however, it could be a while until Microsoft makes the update available on all devices, so keep your fingers crossed to be in the first batch of users getting the Denim.

We've contacted Microsoft for a word on this new firmware update and will update the article when and if we receive a confirmation for the mentioned release schedule.
