Microsoft is working to bring a new Windows 10 build to insiders sometime this month, but the company still struggles to keep details regarding the release date completely secret until development work of this particular version is completed.

Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, has revealed in a short tweet that Microsoft is already working on an important visual tweak for Windows 10 users that would bring them new lock screen options.

Again, no details have been provided, which is probably an indication that the company is still working on these features and will announce more information when work reaches a more advanced stage.

"We have some new lockscreen features coming soon. We’ll talk more about them when they’re enabled in the builds," Aul explains.

New lock screen in build 9926

Windows 10 Technical Preview build 9926, which is the latest official release that was shipped to Windows Insiders, comes with a new lock screen that needs to be manually enabled from the registry editor.

The new lock screen comes with a new position for the on-screen elements, including the username and password, and adopts a look that is a little bit more modern and seems to better match the whole strategy behind Windows 10.

In order to enable the new lock screen in build 9926, you need to open Registry Editor and navigate to the following path:

code
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\TestHooks
Then, simply double-click the Threshold DWORD (32 Bit) value and change its value from 0 to 1 in order to enable the lock screen. Simply sign out or reboot your computer to see the new lock screen in action.

Keep in mind, however, that this might not be the final design of the lock screen, as Microsoft is still working on this particular feature and a lot could change until the final version of the operating system is ready. According to sources, Windows 10 could reach RTM in June, so more details are expected to be provided in the coming months.
