System Center customers that are also using AVIcode technologies should expect the latter to be folded into Microsoft’s management and monitoring solution in the future.

Microsoft has announced that it acquired AVIcode, and that System Center will evolve with a new collection of capabilities designed to make sure that business-critical datacenter applications and services run at optimal parameters.

Neither the Redmond company nor AVIcode have made public the financial details related to the acquisition, but third-party sources indicate that Microsoft paid less than $50 million for the company.

AVIcode will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Microsoft, and in this regard will make sure that existing customers will continue to enjoy support for the product they acquired.

“AVIcode will fulfill its commitments to these customers and assist them in the transition to Microsoft’s systems and processes,” promised Mike Curreri, the CEO of AVIcode.

“Moving forward, our customers and the larger application performance management (APM) market will benefit greatly from the strength of the pairing of Operations Manager with AVIcode’s technology. Critical datacenter applications and services will be more reliable and more available than ever before, driving business success and user satisfaction.”

Brad Anderson, CVP, Management & Security Division for Microsoft did not provide a roadmap for when AVIcode technologies will be integrated into System Center, but noted that this is the plan for the future.

Microsoft itself has been using AVIcode in tandem with System Center in order to monitor and manage their Cloud infrastructure.

“As more and more applications move to run from the cloud, organizations will want to have access to the capabilities that AVIcode delivers—enabling organizations to get a much deeper understanding of the actual end-user experience, with the details to

1) understand when performance and availability is not at the desired service level, and

2), quickly diagnose where the root issues are that lead to latency within the service, resulting in a poor performance experience for the end-users,” Anderson revealed.

Both Anderson and Curreri welcome the acquisition of AVIcode, emphasizing that the new technologies that will be added to System Center Operations Manager will allow customers to have a 360-degree view of their service.
