Microsoft seems to have plans to integrate its Flash competitor, Silverlight, into the future versions of Windows Mobile. The Redmond company hasn't unveiled yet when it will come to its mobile operating system, although announced Silverlight back in 2007, however the company has confirmed that it should be launched for both WM and S60 smartphones.

According to a recent post on Microsoft's Windows Mobile team Twitter feed, we might be able to see Silverlight added to the upcoming WinMO 6.5 platform, which is expected to come to the market sometimes in the second half of the ongoing year.

It’s a common fact that Microsoft Silverlight is meant to power rich application experiences, while also being able to provide high-quality, interactive video over the Web and mobile devices. At the same time, it delivers the experience via one of the most comprehensive runtimes available on the Web.

When it comes to mobile phones, Silverlight is capable of offering a homogenous platform to developers, enabling them to come up with rich interactive applications and mobile-optimized media that would be aimed at a wide number of devices on the market. At the same time, Silverlight would allow developers to make use of their existing desktop code and content, while also enhancing the flexible .NET programming model.

For the time being, no official word from the company on the availability of Silverlight with Windows Mobile 6.5 has been released. The only thing that points towards this fact is the Twitter post, which says the following: “Just got word that Silverlight will be available in the next release of Windows Mobile.” At the same time, it is not known whether it will only come as a part of the WinMo 6.5, or whether it will be made available for other versions of the platforms as well, but we can assume that Windows Mobile 7 will include it for sure.
