If you thought that the Microsoft CEO search is over and the software giant is ready to announce Satya Nadella as Steve Ballmer’s replacements, you’re pretty much wrong.

A new report claims that Microsoft could get the next CEO from Google, as Redmond is currently negotiations with Sundar Pichai, head executive for Google Chrome and Apps, and deeply involved in several top Android projects, over a potential switch to the software empire.

SiliconAngle is reporting that “sources close to the hiring team” have confirmed that negotiations are under way right now, with Pichai considered the top external candidate for the seat.

The report does state that Satya Nadella remains the internal front-runner for the CEO position, but nobody knows for sure whether Microsoft would go for an internal talent or pick someone from Google.

In the meantime, people close to the matter are reportedly claiming that Google paid Pichai no less than $50 million to reject Microsoft’s offer.
