Microsoft has just started selling the second-generation Surface tablet, with both the RT and the Pro models currently available in 21 countries worldwide.

According to new information provided by the company itself, mainstream support for the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2 will continue to be offered until April 10, 2018, so the company will deliver updates and patches for more than four years.

Both tablets are running Windows 8.1, whose extended support will end on January 10, 2023.

As far as the first-generation Surface product family is concerned, the original models will no longer receive updates and fixes as of 2017, with the RT scheduled to go dark on April 11. The original Pro tablet will live for a little bit longer, as mainstream support will end on July 10 the same year.
