Microsoft to Discontinue SUS Updates

While Microsoft has already delivered a replacement solution for the Software Update Services (SUS), the Redmond Company has announced that it plans to drive a stake through the application's
heart by the end of the year. With this move Microsoft aims to breathe life into SUS's alternative, Windows Software Update Services (WSUS). The obsolete SUS will be officially discontinued on December 6, 2006, as the Redmond Company will stop delivering patches and upgrades through the software.

SUS server has bridged Microsoft's Updates Website with corporate networks delivering a solution for patch download, testing and implementation. With WSUS version 2.0 available and WSUS 3.0 released to the public in beta phase, Microsoft will kill off its patch Website synchronization with SUS. WSUS is designed to deliver superior collecting, testing and deploying features, while being compatible with a larger suite of Microsoft products.

WSUS 2.0 and 3.0 bring to the table an array of additional features compared to their predecessor including support for Windows Vista which will be delivered via a WSUS 2.0 service pack later this year.
