Microsoft’s deal with Nokia doesn’t bring Redmond only a brand new candidate for the CEO seat, but also the option to build a new European data center in the home market of the mobile phone manufacturer.
And according to Microsoft, the company is trying to make the most of this by building a new $250 million (€189 million) facility in Finland, with more investments to follow in the coming years.
“Microsoft also announced that it has selected Finland as the home for a new data center that will serve Microsoft consumers in Europe. The company said it would invest more than a quarter-billion dollars in capital and operation of the new data center over the next few years, with the potential for further expansion over time,” a press release states.
Microsoft won’t be the only company owning a data center in Finland, as long-time rival Google is already operating a similar facility in the country.
